Birthday Dinner 2017


Ted Hughes was born in Mytholmroyd on the 17th August 1930. Each year the Elmet Trust holds a lunch or dinner to celebrate the poet's birthday. 


We are absolutely delighted to announce that the speaker at the 2017 Birthday Dinner will be Ted's old friend, Tony Buzan - he of 'mind-mapping' fame. The dinner will once again take place at the Stubbing Wharfe. The dinner will take place on Thursday 17th August at 7pm. 


To be sure of a place at the table, please choose what you'd like to eat from the menu below, and email the membership secretary on elmetsec@hotmail.co.uk with your menu choices, and send a cheque, payable to the Elmet Trust,  for the relevant amount to The Membership Secretary, 19, Roseneath Street, Wortley, Leeds LS12 4DY.

 


The Stubbing Wharf Set Group Menu - £30 for three courses, £27 for two courses, including one glass of wine or oarange juice; additional drinks to be paid for by diners, at the bar. 
 
Starters

  • Creamy garlic mushrooms with crusty bread and butter
  • Prawn Cocktail served with wholemeal bread
  • Pate of the day with chutney and toast
  • Soup of the day with crusty bread and butter
  • Warm salad of black pudding, bacon and potato with a balsamic glaze

 
Mains

  • Gammon steak with pineapple, grilled tomatoes and fried egg served with chunky chips and salad
  • Grilled salmon fillet with a chive mash and a prawn and white wine sauce – served with a selection of vegetables and potatoes
  • Vegetable lasagne served with chunky chips and dressed salad leaves (V)
  • Meat Lasagne served with chunky chips and salad
  • Free range chicken breast with a sundried tomato and basil sauce and a selection of vegetables and potatoes
  • Steak and ale pie served with chunky chips and a selection of vegetables
  • Mushroom risotto topped with goats cheese (V)
  • Trio of locally produced sausages with creamy mash potato, onion gravy and a selection of vegetables
  • Seafood salad of prawns, smoked salmon, anchovies and mixed olives served with Marie rose sauce 

Deserts

  • Baked Vanilla Cheesecake with raspberry coulis
  • Sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce
  • Chocolate Tart served with fresh cream
  • Three cheese board and biscuits
