Birthday Dinner
Ted Hughes was born in Mytholmroyd on the 17th August 1930. Each year The Elmet Trust holds a lunch or dinner to celebrate the poet’s birthday.
Birthday Dinner 2018
We are delighted to announce that the speaker at the 2018 Birthday Dinner will be Mark Hinchliffe, Chair of the Elmet Trust. Mark corresponded with Ted Hughes from being at school to a few weeks before his death. His talk, Encountering Ted, will give an account of their relationship, quote from Ted’s letters, and Mark will read some of his own poems about Ted.
The dinner will once again take place at the Stubbing Wharf in Hebden Bridge. The event will take place on Friday 17th August from 7pm. The talk will begin at 7.30pm and, following questions from the audience, food will be served.
Menu
- Two Courses £20 (including drink on arrival – red wine, white wine or orange juice)
- Three Courses £25 (including drink on arrival – red wine, white wine or orange juice)
- Creamy garlic mushrooms with crusty bread and butter
- Prawn Cocktail served with wholemeal bread
- Paté of the day with chutney and toast
- Soup of the day with crusty bread and butter
- Warm salad of black pudding, bacon and potato with a balsamic glaze
- Gammon steak with pineapple, grilled tomatoes and fried egg served with chunky chips and salad § Grilled salmon fillet with a chive mash and a prawn and white wine sauce – served with a selection of vegetables and potatoes
- Vegetable lasagne served with chunky chips and dressed salad leaves (V)
- Meat Lasagne served with chunky chips and salad
- Free range chicken breast with braised red cabbage, served with sauté potatoes and a thyme and cider sauce served with a selection of vegetables
- Steak and ale pie served with chunky chips and a selection of vegetables
- Mushroom risotto topped with goats cheese (V)
- Trio of locally produced sausages with creamy mash potato, onion gravy and a selection of vegetables
- Seafood salad of prawns, smoked salmon, anchovies and mixed olives served with Marie rose sauce
- Vanilla Panna Cotta with fruit compote
- Sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce
- Malteser cheesecake served with vanilla ice cream
- Three cheese board and biscuits
